Spring (Vernal) Equinox 2010

The Sun enters fiery Aries today, starting a new zodiac year and giving us an energetic push! <span class="Apple-style-It’s a wonderful time of the year to begin or revive a personal project, or to initiate new endeavours of all kinds. Translated literally, equinox means “equal night.” Because the Sun is positioned above the equator, day and night are about equal in length all over the world during the equinoxes.

People have recognized the vernal equinox for thousands of years. There are lots of rituals and traditions surrounding the coming of Spring. Many people celebrated for reason that their food supplies would soon be restored after the baren winter. The date is significant in Christianity because Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring equinox. It is also probably of no coincidence that early Egyptians built the Great Sphinx so that it points directly toward the rising Sun on the day of the Spring equinox.

For interest I casted a Spring Equinox chart for Hong Kong to look at the planetary enegies for the coming zodiac year. Capricorn on the ascendant presents Hong Kong with image as a successful and achievement-oriented city. The ruler of the chart Saturn in the 9th house suggests that educational reforms, research and developments will be key theme of the year. Saturn is opposing Uranus in the 3rd house therefore such reforms are likely to be stimulated by unconvential ideas, while our Government needs to strike a balance between existing structure and out-of-the-box innovations. The opposition is conjoined with Pluto forming a T-Square, adding intensity to education reforms.

Moon reveals the public feelings. She is in Taurus meaning the Hong Kong people are feeling comfortable about their homeland. This feeling is strengthen by Venus on the IC, simply saying Hong Kong people is loving this city. People are practical and material resources ie money will satisfy their nurturing needs. Finally a stellium of planets in the 3rd house, it looks like that there will be a lot of communication and information exchanges in the coming year. People in the IT industry will be able to find a lot of opportunities.
