Crystals and Astrology

In traditional lore the healing qualities of minerals, or the healing crystals, generally remain subjective. Yet as the symbolic meaning of the crystals became part of the collective unconscious, their psychological or psychic qualities were thought to have an effect on our mind and body. As a crystal healer myself the gemstones are my everyday must-haves. I use them for daily healing and depends on the planetary ruler of the day and my need I carry associated crystals, most of the time I wear them in form of pendant or bracelets. I also use crystals to cleanse the aura of myself and space around me. In the past I perform crystal healing therapy on my clients, usually I would perform chakra clearing / balancing. Now I have spent more time on essential oils and tarot readings. Still crystals are always a part of me and they come in very handy whenever I need an extra boost of mojo to amplify sending positive energies to someone.

There is a direct link between crystals and astrology, since the Sun, Moon and Stars, as well as the Earth are all rocks. Crystals are also called the indigo children of heaven and earth. One reason attributable to the mineral facilities of healing is their ability to transmit and absorb light from the Sun. One interesting fact I learned is that there is a very potent link between human beings, the Earth and the Sun. The Earth’s equator inclines 23 ½ degrees towards the Sun in its orbit around the solar disc; this reflects the same inclination of the human heart towards the left side of the body also at 23 ½ degrees. Our human design is not coincidence. There is a direct link with the Sun, the Earth and the human heart. In astrology the Sun is associated with the heart. Such glimpse of knowledge of the divine plan humbles me.

The colours of the crystals. The variance of colour depends upon absorption and transmission of light bringing them beauty and radiance. The geometry of the crystals defines the metaphysical properties of the individual piece. Planetary rulership of plants and crystals serves as a guide for selection, and ultimately choice must always rest with the intuitive understanding of the astrologer.

My interests are in the mineral kingdom (crystals), the plant kingdom (essential oils) and the kingdom of the soul (astrology and the metaphysics). All of them correspond to each other, with lifetime study I want to become a better holistic healer to heal people’s mind, body and spirit.

The Art of Perfumery

I visited a very interesting exhibition last month. It was a collective project created by TASKO inc. (Japan) in collaboration with Invisible Designer Lab, Yamamoto Seisakusho Co. Ltd, and also the perfumer Yoshitake Toshifume. The exhibit was a perfumery organ, which was inspired by the “Gamut of Odors”, a description method for fragrances devised by the British chemist and perfumer George William Septimus PIESSE in the 19th century. This was the first instrument in the world which played odours and music together.

The classic method of blending perfume is based on the theory of Top, Middle and Base notes. This method was devised by PIESSE, and was based on an analogy with the musical scale. He claimed that scents, like sounds, appeared to influence the olfactory nerves and positioned the odours in correspondence with musical notes according to the scent’s effect on his olfactory sense. Choosing the odours that chord together and your perfume will be harmonious and will steer away from discord.

Above chart came from the book tilted: The Magical and Ritual Use of Perfumes by Richard Alan Miller and Iona Miller published in 1990.

Top notes in such a chord are sharp and penetrating and usually very volatile (i.e. they evaporate very quickly). When you smell a commercial perfume, or an essential oil blend, the top note is what you will notice first. Some typical top notes are Bergamot, Lemon, Thyme and Rosemary.

Middle notes tend to be softer and mellower in character and less volatile than top notes and account for the overall character of a perfume or blend. They are usually used in larger proportion than either the top notes or the base notes, and may account for between 50% – 80% of the blend. Some typical middle notes are the Chamomiles, Lavender and Marjoram Sweet.

Base notes are the deep, often exotic aromas such as Sandalwood, Myrrh, Frankincense which are very slow to evaporate. They are very long lasting on the skin and acts as fixatives for top and middle notes: that means by combining with the more volatile oils they slow down their rate of evaporation and make them last longer.

One of the problems with this theory is that the experts cannot agree with each other as to what constitutes a top, middle or base note. In my professional practice when I formulate an individual therapeutic blend, while I take into consideration of top / middle / base notes I will choose a fragrance that corresponds to the physical, emotional and mental state of the client. One way to heal our mind, body and spirit holistically is through the study of our birth chart, identify the planetary strengths and weaknesses as God gifted us when we were born, and apply the corresponding essential oils to achieve an equilibrium state. How to do this? Let’s talk about this over a cuppa (which comes with a proper astrological consultation).

By the way I have been in love with this brand of essential oils. Their oils do not contain artificial ingredients that would dilute their active qualities and are free of chemical residues. One reason is they work closely with growers to select botanicals of the correct species that are grown in ideal environments and carefully harvested at the right time (planetary hours). Am totally in love with them. You can find more information here, or talk to me. Be well and until next time.

Many Happy Returns

Stepping into August, it is my birthday month.  I feel very energised ever since the transiting Sun moves to Leo, where my natal Sun is located.  Often I write on birthday cards with "many happy returns" as greeting note.  Have you ever wondered what it means precisely?  It is a blessing that the return of the transiting Sun conjunct your natal Sun will bring you auspicious moment and a general dose of positive energy.  It is possible to have different kind of returns for example Mars return, Venus return or lunar return.  On birthday time it is the return of the Sun that we are celebrating, and the transiting Sun takes approximately a year to come back to the same zodiac degree – hence technically your birthday could be a day or two off before or after your actual date of birth.

I thought it is interesting to share my approach on astrological prediction.  As people who know me my mind is not particularly clever so when it comes to calculation and analysis I take the broad strokes and make things simple as best as I can.  A lot of times seeing the big picture will be all that is necessary to make sound decisions.  My approach can do just that.  And then if my clients want the specifics, I will move on to use Tarot as a divinatory tool.  That's why I love to use both as with them we can be comprehensive, or at least try.  Before Tarot I used to do horary chart on specific issues, I don't use this branch of astrology now, because to me Tarot is faster and more colourful.  Also because horary needs a lot of precision and detailed observation which is taking me forever. Horary astrologers are clever tribe.  Okay I just digressed.

Here is what I do for astrological prediction, and I will try to explain this with the least technical astro jargons:

I usually do a 'big' prediction once a year during birthday time.  I will look at the profection time lord of the year, this shows pretty much the key theme of that year.  I will study the profected house of the Ascendant, the condition of its ruler and the planets in that house. Then I will print off a monthly profection sub-lord list for my clients, explaining to him the secondary key theme of the 12 month starting from his birthday.

I will computer-calculate a Solar return chart, firstly looking at the house where the Sun is located.  This is another clue on the theme of the year.  I will study the Ascendant of the Solar return chart, overlay the chart with the client's natal chart to find out where the Solar return Ascendant is located in the natal chart.  I will also look at the condition of the Moon, Part of Fortune, MC and Mercury in the Solar return chart in relation to the natal chart.  Then I will observe the transiting Jupiter and Saturn in the natal chart, and after that follow my intutition to check anything else that pops up.  With all these notes usually there will be double whammies found which will give supporting evidence to my chart interpretation.

Once the story is told, I will move on with a Tarot reading, which could be a 12 month prediction or a Celtic cross reading addressing a specific issue.  To me this will be enough to give quite a vivid picture of the coming 12 months from the birthday.  See, it is not so dfficult, or is it?  I look forward to be of service to you one day, my friend.

Vatican City and The Hierophant

I was visiting the Vatican City few days ago. The hotel I stayed was 5 minutes walk away from the city so every morning and evening I would pass by. A solemn place (full of tourists like myself) with balancing architectural structure, heaviness in feeling as it comes with responsibility and duty for the residing saints to serve God.

Nevertheless a remarkable place and can make one feel so small in front of God, as if all world issues are dust or easy jobs to Him. Let’s leave Him our worries so we can enjoy life, the beautiful summer.

Some thoughts on the Hierophant. My birth number is 5. It’s quality is of constant change and unceasing desire for freedom. In Tarot the number 5 card in the major arcana is the Hierophant. He is the King of the Spiritual World on Earth. Full of indoctrination, what is right and what is wrong without any grey area. 5 is the number of freedom which looks like a complete contrast to the guidance of the Hierophant. Perhaps it is especially important to recognise the ideal has to come in positive thoughts and intentions while acknowledging everyone has freedom to make such choice. Always there is respect of freedom; always there is the love of God. Preaching in love.

A strong feeling that the city Rome is ruled by Saturn with lots of well preserved ruins and history.

My favourite site of the city is the Pantheon. A pagan temple built initially for Cleopatra over 2000 years ago, converted into Christianity by around 600AD. One can still sense the amazing and mystical energy when you get inside.

And of course there is Arch Angel Michael. The angel images will be featured in many of the forth-coming tarot-scope posts.

My Fat Journal

Truth is I am obsessed with my weight.  I don’t look very fat (at least that’s what I thought!) but constantly I am thinking about whether I will put on an extra pound by having those delicious chewy chococolate chip cookies, perhaps just another little piece?  I couldn’t stop myself from snacking expecially when I am under stress.  My work is stressful, so is everybody.  Okay, I can make up 100 excuses to justify that extra piece of cookie.  I have heard that stress will increase cortisol level, and when more cortisol releases our body’s fat receptors will open widely.  This will allow us to absorb 4 times more fat than normal.  That’s totally not helping!   Being stress and tired will make you fat.

Few weeks ago I felt the urgent need to conjure the fairies for help.  My lovely essential oils!  How adorable they are.  Here was what I did and I found the methods effective.  I have become more conscious of what I eat, I feel less obssessed with snacking all the time.  Would you like to have a go?  Of course, if you are not like me then just enjoy the poster images below.  Or you may share with your loved ones.

In the morning I use this blend on diffuser, which I called it the no nonsense determination blend to strengthen my willpower – to eat and live a healthy day.  I use Saturn oil (Veitver) for grounding, the Sun oils Sweet Orange and Sweet Basil to keep myself strong and bright.

Once a week (twice if I am good) I use 10 mil Sweet Almond oil to blend with the following essential oils for abdominal massage.  Dill is particularly good for digestion problem.  To me it has a nice Fillet O Fish smell that fulfills my craving.  Ginger is great for her burning sensation, I love my Ginger using CO2 extraction rather than steam distillation.  Cypress is used for firming.  Rose essential oil can isolate lipids in the blood that turn into enzymes that in turn make us fat.  Lavender is added for skincare really.  The direction of the massage stroke has to be clockwise.

Just to ensure I am very determined to eat well rather than eat junk, I have a little aroma pendent with me.  The blend makes me very awake so I use it only in the day.  It has to be taken off at night time.  I need a good 7 hour sleep as research said that below 7 hour sleep will kick up the cortisol again, which will activate four times as many fat receptors…oh dear.  I found this formula from a research article a few years ago that I now use for my pendant.  Thanks to the aromatherapist who invented this.

Thank you my fairies, and thank you my lovely essential oils.  I still do my snacking some times, but more sensible.  Every day is getting better and better.  I wish you a healthy and happy day.
