Time to celebrate: Imbolc!

This is the time of purification after the hermit-like of winter, through the renewing power of the Sun.  It is also a festival of light and of fertility, for the Mother Earth is warmed by God, with His power felt in the longer days.  The warmth fertilises the earth, causing seeds to germinate and sprout.  And so, the earliest beginnings of Spring commence.  Imbolc is the mid way between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox (the Sun is at 15 Aquarius).  Since the Winter Solstice the days are becoming lighter as the Sun moves higher in the sky.

As one of the traditional times for initiations into the covens, I treat this as a new January and will do a simple ritual in the evening to renew my resolutions made at the beginning of the year.  Nothing formal, just something simple and from the heart to tell my deity of my intentions.  This is perhaps the best kind of self-dedication ritual.

On this day what I usually do is: in the evening after the sunset, light all my candles at home, visualise my life blossoming with creativity, with renewed energy and strength.  Then I will say the following prayer:f

Oh Father God,

Answers to all mysteries and yet mysteries unanswered;

In this time of power I open myself to your essence.

In this place and in this time I am changed;

From hence forth I walk following your guidance.

I breathe your energies into my body,

That I may see the divine in nature, nature in the divine,

And divinity within myself and all else.

Oh great God, make me one with your essence.

After that I will have curry!  Curries and all dishes made with peppers, onions, leeks, garlic or chives are appropriate because they are spicy and full-bodied food that attune with the rebirth of the Sun.  Our body is getting warmer and becoming more ready to welcome Spring.
